阿比让是象牙海岸的最大都市和经济首都，也是象牙海岸实际上的行政中心（象牙海岸名义上的首都是亚穆苏克罗）。位于几内亚湾埃布里耶潟湖（Lake ?brié）沿岸，包括阿比让半岛和潟湖中的小巴萨姆岛（Petit-Bassam）等，相互之间以桥梁和铁路连结。
