艾奥瓦州（Iowa）是美国50个联邦州份之一，艾奥瓦州北接明尼苏达州，西边与内布拉斯加州与南达科他州相邻，南接密苏里州，东邻威斯康辛州与伊利诺州。介于密西西比河与密苏里河之间，除西北一隅地势较高外，绝大部分地区为坦荡开阔的平原。土壤肥沃，农产丰富，素有“美国粮仓”之称。
西北角为冰碛丘陵，奥契叶丹冈海拔510米，为全州最高点。地势从西北向东南和西南倾斜。锡达河绿敛瓦河和得梅因河系河流向东汇入密西西比河，小苏河大苏河和弗洛伊德河向西汇入密苏里河。
气候特征：
艾奥瓦州属温带大陆性气候。冬寒夏热。西北部1月平均气温为-9℃，东南部为-4℃，大风暴时可下降至-34℃。7月白昼平均气温为34℃，十分炎热。来自墨西哥湾的热带海洋气团经常带来雷阵雨。西北部平均年降水量为711毫米，南部为864毫米，大部分在夏季内降落。冬季降雪少于东部和北部各州。常有旱灾发生，西北部尤甚。
